Tree, Debris, and Mess Free
May, 2013 Compact & Utility Tractor Newsletter

Ripping, dragging, piling, cleaning... are you ready for spring cleaning? This spring has had its ups and downs with weather, and if you were caught up in rain and wind this month like many of us were, then you probably have some cleaning up to do.

Loose debris, broken or weary trees or stumps, overgrown pasture, and holes and dips in your land are just a few of the things that may need fixing. So buckle up for a few insider tips to help you as you rip, pile, fill holes, grade, and more!

These tools are your best friends...
Spring clearing tasks are only as effective as the tools you use to perform them. That's why you bought the tractor in the first place, right? Well if you don't yet have all the artillery you need, then check out these two threads as some of our members contemplate the purchase of a new grapple or a thumb for their backhoe or loader bucket. Click on those links to find out what some other members recommend.

We hope you get to take on some of these tasks this spring, and if you do, please be sure to take lots of pictures and tell us about your work. But if the sun has been shining in your neighborhood and you don't have even a fallen twig to tend to, then you could always give your tractor a wash. This member spent an entire afternoon washing and waxing his two Kubota tractors and attachments and now they look shiny as new! Click here for pictures. Otherwise, please enjoy these spring cleanup related topics:

Stump Removal

Many people are ripping out old tree stumps this time of year. Whether or not this is a task on your to-do list, you'll be impressed to see the size of the stumps other members were able to pull out. Some were easy and some took hours, a few more helping hands, and some well thought out strategy. Find out what to do next time you have to pull out a stump: click here.

Land Repair & Road Grading

When the rain comes, you might notice a few more dips in your land than were there before. Well that's a great excuse to hop on your tractor and do some fill work with your loader! Or maybe your driveway needs to be leveled again. The best tool to grade your driveway with is a box blade. Click that link to find out what kind of box blades others own and recommend.

Debris Removal

Clearing up brush and debris is pretty self-explanatory, but simple as it is, many TBN members have said it's their favorite task because you can just take it nice and easy and slowly gather things into piles for you to manage or dispose of. This member cleaned up his trees with some basic hand tools, then used his tractor for the debris. Take a look at his finished work: Click here.

Mowing

Mowing is another easy-going task to take on. It gives you an excuse to ride your tractor for a while and enjoy the smell of fresh cut grass---not to mention, your lawn or pasture will look great when you're finished! Some topics recently discussed related to mowing are, "Should I get a mower attachment or a ZTR?", how to mow on slopes, and why you should watch out for dangerous debris. Also, some people recommend taking your loader off when mowing to help with weight distribution. Should you?

We hope you enjoyed these tractor topics and will enjoy the following sections of this month's newsletter. Summer is just around the corner so if you haven't started working on your big plans for the year, you better get started! Please stay safe and say hello to your neighbors this month, whether your neighbors on the next lot over or your friends here at TBN.

Happy tractoring...
